Southern West Virginia Adult Soccer League Women's Division
The Southern West Virginia Adult Soccer League (SWVASL) has been around
for over 25 years now and is continuing to flourish bringing players in
from all over the metro valley. The league has four different divisions
and 27 teams. There is a premier division for the highly skilled
player, a second division that is also competitive, but does not allow
slide tackling, a third division for those over 30 looking for
recreational play, and a women's division. This means that the
standard of soccer ranges from highly competitive to beginner. Players
ages range 16 to 60 and some teams are coed. All games are played on
Sunday with starting times from 11am to 5 pm. There is a Spring and a
Fall soccer season starting in March and August that usually lasts 10 -
12 weeks. All of the games are played at the Columbia Gas soccer fields
in St. Albans, WV.
The newest addition to the league is the women's division. In its
second season the division consists of six women's teams. The vision
for the division is to split it into a recreational division and a
competitive division. This means recruiting new players. Whether you
are a beginner or a seasoned player there is a team for you. Please
call 744-7035 or visit the league website at www.swvasl.org.
Message from the WV Women's Adult Soccer Coordinator-
During the next few months, I am going to actively recruit more female
soccer players. I have been in touch with Marshall University, WVU
Tech, and UC soccer coaches as well as the YMCA's in Beckley and in
Charleston. I am trying to get the word out and encourage more women to
play. With this in mind, it is my goal to recruit more competitive
players by the Fall season. This will allow for there to be a
recreational division and a more competitive division. My feeling is
that we should not put age requirements on these divisions yet. This
means that it would be up to your team to decide if they want to play in
the recreational or competitive division. If you know of any woman that
is a beginner to the game or a seasoned veteran please forward their
information along to me. Encourage your friends and families to come
out and play!
Thanks,
