Subject: Parent's Warning
Parents,
Some of the Tri-C coaches/parents that have tried to do a great job watching over their team kids have found that the social networking sites, like Facebook, are placing our kids in a vulnerable spot. We have had a person contact a player requesting to be friends. This person, when questioned if they were a "friend",said they knew another player that was shown to be a friend of this player. We
think we have interupted this particular incident with a viligant parent and a "street/computer smart" player having good communication about their online activities. We all felt that I should send this note to re-enforce the need for all of us to keep close watch over our kids, strangers are just a website away,so we can prevent anything bad from happening.
If you child has a Facebook, Myspace, or any other social network account, please log on their account with them and get their security settings set where you are most comfortable. We all have to raise our kids how we feel best, but we felt the need to share this incident so that you have the opportunity to rethink you level of involvement if you have chosen to let you child have a
little more freedom.
Sorry to share this with you at Christmas, but with the kids being out of school their extra free time may be spent online and whether you want to believe it or
not, they are vulnerable and this is a great time to have a talk with them about the dangers of sharing even their name with a stranger.
Thanks for all you do with your/ our kids.
