WVHSSCA Hall Of Fame
The West Virginia High School Coaches Association (WVHSSCA) made the announcement Friday (7/5/13) that Washington High School in Jefferson County has been selected to host the association’s annual All-Star weekend. The association’s annual event features the induction and honoring of individuals that have distinguished themselves in the growth and advancement of high school soccer in our state. Players, coaches, referees and long-time contributors have all been honored to the Hall of Fame and became members of this very exclusive club. During the evening ceremony the WVHSSCA will introduce the 1st Team All-State members and Players of Year and Coaches with Year for each 4 individual classes: AAA Boys, AAA Girls, AA-A Boys and AA-A Girls.
"Several programs from around the state showed interest in hosting the event but we narrowed it down to two: The Midland Trail & Nicholas County High Schools paired up to submit a dual school proposal to host the event in Summersville. They were selected to serve as hosts for the 2014 program for the WVHSSCA. Both submitted wonderful proposals and to be honest, the tie breaker was literally who asked first," Association President Fred Roman stated. "We had a hard time picking between the two schools "I’m glad to have both events scheduled and now the schools can move forward with their plans and we can move on with ours."
The Patriots Soccer Program will be hosting this year’s event," states Roman. "And I know they’re going to do a fantastic job." In previous years, this undertaking was hosted by Fairmont Senior and Bridgeport High Schools. "West and Bridgeport have hosted wonderful weekends," Roman added, "And, I know the Washington folks will draw from their many years of experience to organize a great event." The tentative schedule will have the Hall of Fame Banquet and the introduction of the WVHSSCA’s 1st Team All-State members on November 23rd at Charles Town Racing. The 4 All-Star matches will be held on the pitch at Washington High School on Sunday, November 24th.
The 4 matches will feature the All-State high school seniors participating in classic North South match of the state’s best. These have been, traditionally, great matches and it never fails to pack the bleachers. It’s an experience no senior participating will forget.
